Alice Anne  of Xavier & Alice Anne is going to open up the week for us with her contribution to the The Monday Snapshot – an evolution of the MMM feature, meant to bring the PAIL blogroll to life by giving its members a chance to feature themselves and make new connections.

My little boy is so…. chill. Relaxed. He kicks his feet up, props his hands behind his head, enjoys the view.

For awhile there I was a go, go, go type person. I thought if I wasn’t that way that I was being a “lazy” mom or I was wasting an opportunity to take advantage of the fun things to do in our city. Missing out on giving him awesome experiences. Not being productive or working towards the-next-big-thing.

Can you imagine how frazzled I became… trying to check “fun” things off a to-do list? Ha ha. My son with his calm personality is teaching me to slooooow down. He just wants me to play with him. He doesn’t know anything about whatever new fun-thing-to-do there is or what mountain I want to climb next (literally and figuratively). He just knows and wants his mama to be right there with him, to be fully present… in the moment.

I’ve had to cut back on my “goals” and am learning to focus on the here-and-now. What a difference it has made! If only we could all remember that it’s not a race, but a journey…

A couple quotes that have kept me going lately:

“In all of living have much of fun and laughter. Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured.” — Gordon B. Hinckley

“So often we get caught up in the illusion that there is something just beyond our reach that would bring us happiness: a better family situation, a better financial situation, or the end of a challenging trial… Sometimes in life we become so focused on the finish line that we fail to find joy in the journey… Doesn’t it seem foolish to spoil sweet and joyful experiences because we  are constantly anticipating the moment when they will end?” — Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Now, get to know a little more about Alice Anne with her answers to the Monday Snapshot “5 Questions”:

1) How long have you been blogging and how did you get started?

I started blogging in 2009 when I wanted to get in on conversations about infertility and talk about our decision to adopt. It has opened me up to the huge infertility and adoption communities online and I have loved learning so much from other people’s experiences. I have met some of the most amazing people through blogging.

2) Tell us a little about your ALI journey and your family (3-4 sentences):

I was married and “trying” for almost 5 years before I even got up the courage to see a doctor. I used fertility meds for almost 2 years before I realized I had very little desire to actually get pregnant – I really just wanted to be a parent. I stopped torturing myself with the infertility journey and researched what I knew in my heart should be our path – adoption. We adopted our son Kal-El in 2011 and hope to adopt again. :)

3) What makes you unique in the blogging world? (e.g. special talent, rare diagnosis, life experience)?

I haven’t really decided what my blog’s even about yet, ha ha. It has evolved over time. What may (or may not) make me stand out is that I’m a work-at-home mom as a hairstylist, specializing in ethnic hair. Every so often, I post pictures of cornrow designs that I’ve done. Despite living in whiter than white Utah, I actually am surrounded by diversity everyday because of my talent and I love that.

4) One word to describe yourself:

over-thinker

5) What blog or website (IF or not) would you recommend to others? Why?

I read so many blogs, it’s ridiculous. Two of my real life friends’ blogs that I love to read are Baby Making Machine and K & C Plus Three (just barely had triplets born to her through a surrogate!).
