Hey there, I’m Geochick, a dam engineer, a wife, and a mom to Baby X. I keep my blog anonymous to protect the innocent (read: me) given that I’ve gone on some incredible rants and put a ridiculous amount of my personal thoughts and feelings on the web. Although I’ve been tempted reveal my identity, especially of late, I’m glad I haven’t for various reasons.
For vacation, we went to Massachusetts for a family wedding, and spent a few days at a beach I used to frequent on my summer vacations, where this picture was taken of me and Baby X on the rainy day, before the heat and humidity hit full bore. We had the best time frolicking the waves, digging in the sand, and for me, reveling in nostalgia. Although my family moved to Colorado when I was young, we spent a huge chunk of childhood going back East every summer. I did something not too many of my friends did: piled into a car with my parents and brothers and drove 2,000 miles (well, my parents) to spend weeks lazing around my grandmother’s house. This was the first summer I’ve been back since high school, and it was great fun to spend it with S and Baby X showing off my favorite places and eating my favorite “back East” foods. S may think that a chicken chop suey sandwich is revolting, but it will always be a yummy summer staple for me! He’s down the the fried clams though, so we’ll get along just fine.

Now, get to know a little more about Geochick with her answers to the Monday Snapshot “5 Questions”:
1) How long have you been blogging and how did you get started?
I started blogging at the end of May 2009 to keep up with other members of a message board I had left. Many of those early posts are written for a specific audience, and it took a little while for me to find the ALI online community, which has introduced me to a few IRL friends and countless of on-line friends. Not to mention the wealth of information and stories that abound in others’ blogs.
2) Tell us a little about your ALI journey and your family (3-4 sentences):
I have unexplained infertility and we tried TTC with treatments for a couple of years. We never opted to go all the way with IVF and instead found ourselves making an adoption plan pretty early in the process (well, me, and DH was playing catch-up emotionally for a while). We have one son, adopted domestically, and recently experienced a failed placement.
3) What makes you unique in the blogging world? (e.g. special talent, rare diagnosis, life experience)?
I don’t know what makes me unique. I am a general diarist who just blogs, rants, whatever, without a whole lot of direction. Maybe the fact that I have a thinking, super-analytical personality, and thus a direct style of writing makes me unique.
4) One word to describe yourself:

5) What blog or website (IF or not) would you recommend to others? Why?
Lavender Luz. Lori’s blog has helped me tremendously in embracing the idea of open adoption, as well as re-shaped how I think about adoption in general. It’s a must-read for anyone touched by adoption either in their lives or in their friends and families lives.
